SCHOLARSHIPS
The scholarship application deadline for 2021 applications is Friday, May 21, 2021. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
As a staunch advocate of education, JHwriting+ sponsors: (1) the Shermaine James Robinson Academic College Scholarship, available to high school seniors, and (2) the Shermaine James Robinson Summer Program Scholarship.*
Who is Shermaine James Robinson?
Shermaine James is the widow of Sergeant John H. James, Jr., U.S. Army. Sergeant James died of leukemia while serving on active duty during the Vietnam era.
Tireless effort and commitment, secured by God’s grace, allowed Shermaine James to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages from Morgan State University, send her son to Howard University, and send her daughter to the U.S. Naval Academy. After both of her children had completed their undergraduate studies, Shermaine James met and married Huston Robinson, where they currently reside in Maryland. Shermaine James Robinson retired as a Department of Defense employee after over 20 years of service, concluding her career in the Naval Medical Clinic on the “Yard” of the U.S. Naval Academy.
For her stress of academics, demand for excellence, and unyielding perseverance in the face of adversity, the Shermaine James Robinson Scholarship supports students who are traditionally under-represented at four-year colleges and universities. As the U.S. Naval Academy is a fully-funded institution, no scholarships are awarded to students attending service academies. However, there are several summer academic programs hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy; JHwriting+ is proud to support students accepted into these highly competitive program by contributing to the cost of the program, airfare, and spending money during the program. Please see scholarship applications for scholarship criteria.
JHwriting+ Scholarships are (1) merit based, (2) restricted for payment of tuition, on campus room and board, books and fees, and (3) one-time, non-renewable awards, unless otherwise indicated. Preference is given to Leadership LINKS Summer Leadership Program and academic summer camps offered by the U.S. Naval Academy.
